270 Strategies Vice President Luis Avila To Be Honored with Latino Advocacy Champion Award
WASHINGTON, DC - Luis Avila, a Vice President at 270 Strategies, will be honored with Valle del Sol's Profiles of Success Latino Advocacy Champion Award in Phoenix today. Luis was selected for the impact his work has had in "organizing and educating, collaborating closely with diverse communities, and dedicating himself to social and economic justice." Valle del Sol is a an Arizona nonprofit that works with the Latino community to help them meet their needs through primary health care, behavioral and mental health care, human services, and leadership development programs.
"Luis' passion for social change is inspiring," said Meg Ansara, a partner at 270 Strategies. "Through the five-plus years we"ve worked together, he's been a driving force for creating open dialogue on important issues ranging from education to immigration. Luis brings a unique perspective and his signature enthusiasm to every project he's involved with - and I'm proud to count him as a colleague and friend."
Luis serves on the board at the National Council of La Raza, the largest national Hispanic civil rights and advocacy organization in the United States. He was the National Program Director at Stand for Children, an education advocacy organization, and was named one of 40 Hispanic Leaders Under 40 by Latino Perspectives Magazine for his work in education and parental involvement programs for low-income families. Luis co-founded the Isac Amaya Foundation, which provides resources and information for students attending college or university in Arizona, regardless of their immigration status.
