Top Obama campaign official fires up NDP convention crowd
MONTREAL — To hear Jeremy Bird tell it, Democrats and New Democrats have a lot in common.

Bird, the former Obama for America national field director, gave a much-anticipated speech to the NDP policy convention on Saturday, telling delegates about how he oversaw building a potent ground game that helped U.S President Barack Obama win re-election in 2012.
He said the Obama campaign innovated by devoting significant resources to training candidates, staffers and volunteers in grassroots campaign strategy. And he stressed the importance of using smart data, analytics and 21st-century technologies in get-out-the-vote efforts.
