Brent Messenger is a Senior Vice President with 270 Strategies. Prior to joining the team, Brent founded and served as CEO of a successful technology startup, Empower Campaigns, Inc., where he developed a software platform that was employed by the Democratic National Committee during the 2012 General Election cycle. Brent’s technology has helped candidates, causes, and campaigns discover and prioritize conversations online, empower supporters to engage in those conversations in an organized and meaningful way, and track and measure results against existing media standards.
His extensive experience in online and offline organizing includes work as a Digital Advocacy Specialist for the global public relations and communications firm Burson-Marsteller and serving as a battleground state Field Director during President Obama’s 2008 campaign. As the New Mexico State Field Director, Brent led 70 full-time Field Organizers and tens of thousands of volunteers across the state to a 14.6% margin of victory -- the largest margin for any red state going blue.
As the front-person for an indie rock band, Brent has performed live on BBC Radio 1, charted a top-20 UK Indie Single, appeared at music festivals from SXSW to the Redding Festival in England, and shared the stage with such well-known band as The Strokes, The Killers and Arcade Fire. Brent lives in San Francisco's Mission District with his wife and two small children. He enjoys exploring local taquerias and cheering for the San Francisco Giants at AT&T Park.
